From a one-off calc to the whole trip

This works out who owes who for one set of expenses. A real trip or shared house keeps going — new costs, different currencies, unequal splits, and settling up over weeks. That is what Duesy is for: it remembers every expense and who paid, handles multiple currencies, supports unequal and itemised splits, and shows a running "who owes who" you can settle in a tap. It is free, with no daily limit, and everyone joins by link or QR.

How this calculator works

Every expense here is split equally among all the people you add. Each person's share is the group total divided by the number of people; their balance is what they actually paid minus that share. The calculator then matches who owes to who is owed, largest first, so you get the shortest possible settle-up list.

Questions

How do you split expenses in a group?

Add up everything the group spent and divide by the number of people to get each person's fair share, then compare it to what each person actually paid. Whoever paid more than their share is owed; whoever paid less owes.

How do you work out who owes who?

Each person's balance is what they paid minus their fair share. Negative balances owe, positive balances are owed. The calculator matches debtors to creditors so you get a short list of exactly who should pay whom.

How do you settle up with the fewest payments?

The largest debtor pays the largest creditor first, and so on — that minimises the number of transfers. The settle-up list here does this automatically.

Is this calculator free?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up. For an ongoing trip or shared house — unequal splits, multiple currencies, settling over time — use the free Duesy app.
